Job Summary
The James L. West Center for Dementia Care (the Center) seeks a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Development to lead and grow its fundraising efforts. This individual will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record in nonprofit development, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, corporate partnerships and grants.
As the Center’s lead fundraiser, the Vice President will manage a portfolio of donors and oversee all aspects of development strategy and execution. This role partners closely with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, and key staff to align fundraising initiatives with the Center’s mission and strategic goals.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
1. Collaborate with the President and CEO, Board of Directors, and Leadership Team to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities.
2. Develop and implement an annual Development Plan with clear goals and benchmarks.
3. Partner with the marketing team to incorporate giving opportunities into the Center’s communications.
4. Oversee creation of development specific pieces.
5. Lead the Development Committee of the Board, providing regular updates and actionable recommendations. Provide relevant updates and information to the Board of Directors.
6. Evaluate fundraising performance and adjust strategies to optimize results.
Development
7. Lead all fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and capital campaigns. Create new opportunities to grow and maintain donor base.
8. Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors as well as community partners.
9. Represent the Center in the community as a knowledgeable advocate for dementia care and education.
10. Ensure funding is available for capital improvements, financial assistance, and programmatic needs.
Operations & Administration
11. Supervise the Development Assistant and oversee donor database management, gift processing, and acknowledgments.
12. Maintain accurate donor records and ensure compliance with fundraising best practices.
13. Develop and maintain fundraising policies and procedures.
14. Assist in preparing the annual development budget and monitor resource allocation.
